アーティストプロフィール: Wolfgang Petrick
ウォルフガング・ペトリックは1939年ベルリン生まれ。
生物学を修了した後、ビジュアル・アート・アカデミーで学ぶ。その後、当時の伝説ともいえる展示ギャラリー共同体「Großgörschen 35」の共同創設者となったことからも彼の作品には社会批判が読み取れる。
1969年、ペトリックは、ヴォルフスブルク市から委託された作品創作で表彰された。2年後にフランス国際芸術会館（シテ・デザール）の奨学を受けパリで過ごし、1972年には第3回フィレンツェの国際グラフィック・ビエンナーレで金賞を受賞。同年、にクリティカル・リアリズム運動の影響を受け、ペーター・ゾルゲやハンス=ユルゲン・ディールと共「Aspekt (アスペクト)」を結成。また、彼は、70年代初頭には舞台デザイナーとしても活躍し、1975年にベルリンのアート・アカデミーで教授を勤めた。6年後、アーティストとパフォーマーとして批評家賞を受賞。近年では、ベルリンとニューヨークで活動を続ける日々を送っている。

Painter Wolfgang Petrick was born in 1939 in Berlin. After studying biology, he changed to the Academy of Visual Arts. Petrick is a co-founder of the legendary exhibition community Großgörschen 35, and his works are often pieces of social criticism. In 1969, Petrick was awarded the job of painting the City of Wolfsburg. The scholarship Cité des Arts brought him to Paris two years later, and in 1972 he was honored with the gold medal of the third Biennale Internazionale della Grafica in Florence. The same year, Petrick, Peter Sorge and Hans Jürgen Diehl founded the group “Aspekt” under the influence of the Critical Realism movement. Petrick also worked as a stage designer in the early seventies, and became a professor at the Academy of Arts in Berlin in 1975. Six years later, the artist and performer was granted the Critic Award. Nowadays, Wolfgang Petrick lives and works in Berlin and New York City.
