アーティストプロフィール: Leslie Ditto
テネシー州メンフィスで育つ中、いくつもの夏、父
親がハーレーのバイクを組み立てるのを眺めて過ご
し、Franzetta やBoris Valleoのようなアーティストに
影響を受けた幻想的なイメージをガスタンクにペイン
トしていた。父のアートブックを熟視し、アートに没頭
できる時間が心の平穏だった。幼少期よりビジュアル
アートに憧れ、音楽に癒され、チェロを練習していた。
彼女はロサンゼルスのオーティス・パーソンズ・カレッ
ジ・オブ・アート・アンド・デザインに学んだが2ヶ月の
うちに父親が末期の病状に倒れ、メンフィスの実家に
戻り復学することはなかった。
年月を重ねる中で、彼女はレオナルド・ダ・ヴィンチ
やレンブラントのような歴史的画家のテクニックを身
に着けるようになる。特に透明なオイルカラーで中間
色の絵に上塗りをする技術は大好きであった。現在
は、彼女の社会的、政治的、宗教的視点と感情を表現
した美しい油絵を作品として手がけている。彼女によ
ると、作品のコンセプトとなるのはシンプルなアイディ
アの種であり、そこから複雑なシンボルやイメージが
育っていくという。目標は彼女の心持を見るものに伝
えられること。

Artist bio:
As a young girl in Memphis, Tennessee, Leslie Ditto spent many summers watching her father build Harley motorcycles from the ground up, and then paint the gas tanks with fantastical images inspired by artists like Franzetta and Boris Valleo. She gazed at his art books and immersed herself in the arts, where she felt at peace. She aspired in the visual arts and found solace in music as well, training on the cello from a young age. Leslie was accepted into Otis Parsons College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, but after only two months her father became terminally ill. She was forced to return home to Memphis and was never able to return to school.
Over the years, Leslie taught herself the techniques of the “Old Masters” such as Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt. She fell in love with the technique of glazing transparent oil color over a neutral colored painting. Today, she creates disturbingly beautiful oil paintings that express her deep emotions and stem from her views of current social, political, and religious dynamics. According to Leslie, concepts for her paintings start with a seed of a simple idea and grow into many complex symbols and images. Her goal is to capture her audience and bring them to her emotional state in the hopes that her test for an echo will be obtained.
