アーティストプロフィール: Charlie Adlard
1966年シュルーズベリー生まれ。そこで、平凡な学
校のことをやり、テストを受けて。。。その後、映像の勉
強をすることを決め、メイドストーン・アート・カレッジ
に通い3年後に学士を取得した。そして光きらめく街
でロックスターになるんだ！とロンドンに向かった。
その後、自分が取得した学士が技術的な面であま
り役に立たないことを判明し、それで仕事を得るに
は非常に難しいと考えた。当時、バンドでドラムを叩
いており、そっちの道の方がものになりそうだった。
が、8ヶ月後にはシュルーズベリーに戻り、次は何をす
るか探していた。バンドはうまくいかなかった。
そして突然、“漫画をやったらどうだろう？”と思い、
その後の2年間、その業界に入るために色々と努力し
てみた。そして遂に成功した！Fleetwayが自分にチャ
ンスをくれたことに感謝している。

Artist bio: Charlie Adlard
I was born and bred in Shrewsbury in 1966. There, I did all the usual school stuff, took all the usual school tests . . . blah, blah, blah. I decided to study film and video at Maidstone Art College, and emerged after three years with a BA. Then it was off to the bright lights of London to become a rock star!
I quickly found out that my BA was pretty useless where technical things were concerned, so I found it hard to get a job. I was also playing drums in a band and that seemed the better path to follow. Still, 8 months later I found myself back in Shrewsbury, looking for what to do next. The band thing just didn’t work out . . .
Then I suddenly realized, “Why don’t I do comics again?” Consequently, I spent the next two years struggling to get into that industry—and eventually succeeded! Thank you to all concerned at Fleetway for giving me the chance.
